VERSE TO MEMORIZE
O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! (Psalms 119.5)
INTRODUCTION
Make a wreath with cardboard and laminated paper and bring to the lesson. Start the lesson by saying, "Today, we'll play 'To Crown a King.'' First we must choose who will be our king. He must be an example to his subjects, have a good conduct, love for his people, be kind to the weak, etc.
''Let’s choose three candidates for the throne.'' Choose three candidates and let the children vote which of the three should be the king.
You can do this by asking them to raise their hands while you are calling the names of the candidates. After choosing the king, ask the kids to sit down and say to them that: "Now that we have already played, I want to say something. There was a time when the people of Israel were led by kings. The first was Saul, then David, then ... well, after David came another successor. Do you want to know who he was? Then pay attention.
SOLOMON RECEIVES ANOINTMENT
WHEN KING David was an old man, on his late days, he decided to choose one of his sons to reign in his place. He chose Solomon, his youngest son. David loved him very much and trusted him; he was a very obedient child. He knew that Solomon was still very young, but he was best-fitted to be king of Israel, fearing and serving God faithfully. Therefore, kids you should always obey your father and mother, and be faithful to God. All parents love their children and they always want the best for them, but at the time of giving the best gift they remember the most obedient child, that’s what brings more happiness to them.
David wanted Solomon to turn into a king in front of everyone, with a ceremony, anointing, party and everything. He asked the priest Zadoque, the prophet Nathan, and Benaiah to present themselves to him, guide and show him how Solomon’s heart should be . They stood before the king, who said: "Take all my servants, take them with you, my son Solomon must ride on my mule and take them to Gihon. Arriving there, you shall anoint him king over Israel, then play the trumpet and say: "Long live King Solomon!". Afterwards let him sit on my throne, as he will be the king.''
They did just as King David had requested. The priest Zadoque anointed Solomon with oil, trumpets played, and all the people shouted: "Long live King Solomon!" Then they went to Solomon playing the bagpipes, dancing and cheering. David was very happy and thanked God for giving him the opportunity to see his son seated on the throne, and have done what God had promised, "Never a successor is missing at the house of David and the throne of Israel”.
CONCLUSION
Do you know why God gave this to David, kids? Because he was faithful to God throughout his life. This was God's agreement with David. The Word of God alone can accomplish in our lives when we do our part by obeying His commandments and remain faithful to succeed in all: "Be faithful to God and keep His commandments." And if we want to be victorious, we must do the same.
