YOUNG MEN WHO RESISTED TO
TEMPTATION
THE KING of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, invaded
the city of Jerusalem and commanded his soldiers to take all the gold and
valuable things and to take the strongest and most intelligent young men as
well. Do you know why did he take the young men, kids? He took them to train
them for a period and then to separate the best to help him solving the
problems of the kingdom. The king wanted the young men to be strong and healthy
while they were studying and ordered them to eat the same food the cook would
bring for him. What a comfort! Have you imagined eating the same food of the
king?
At
lunch time, many tasty things were served, but Daniel and his friends decided
to eat only vegetables and drink only water. Do you know why, kids? Because
that food was offered to the false god the king worshiped. Then they asked to
the servant to let them eat only vegetables and not to worry for they were sure
they would become stronger and more intelligent than the others. The servant
was afraid that the king found out and punished him, but eventually agreed.
After the period of training, the king has chosen the strongest and most
handsome young men. Do you know who were chosen? Daniel and his three friends:
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. They became stronger and more intelligent
than the others.
CONCLUSION
Daniel
loved and obeyed to the God creator of the heavens and earth, and continued
doing so, even being in a land where people adored to false gods. They failed
to encourage Daniel and his friends to displease God with their delicious food.
And this is how we should proceed, steady with Jesus. We should be faithful and
obedient to the Word of God for in the end of all we will be winners and happy.
