The Journey to Mount Sinai Continues!     

Lesson from Sunday the 20th up until Saturday the 26th

How good it is to belong to God!

Last week we talked about the important task God had given to Moses. Do you want to know what happened? So keep listening!

Even though he was not welcome in Egypt, Moses went back there to talk to Pharaoh. He had a message from God to the king of Egypt, God said, "Let my people go!" - They are not supposed to be slaves in Egypt, but free servants of the living and eternal God!

But do you think Pharaoh believed Moses? Nope! Pharaoh said, "I do not know God, I do not believe him, and I absolutely will NOT let this people go!

Humpf! This Pharaoh was very hard hearted for the things of God, but God had a plan. He had given Moses a powerful rod, through which His signs would be manifested. The land of Egypt would be afflicted by 10 terrible plagues, one after the other. But the small village of Goshen, in which the Hebrews (people of God) lived was not affected one bit!

Every time one of the plagues struck Egypt, Pharaoh considered giving ears to God and his servant Moses, but as each plague passed, he quickly changed his mind. Very stubborn this guy! The plagues did not come to destroy Egypt, but to show a little sign of God's Power. To show that there is a difference between those who serve Him and those who do not. Those who are on God's side are safe.

The 10th plague was proven too much for Pharaoh. When all of firstborns (from people and animals) died - except of course for those from Goshen. Pharaoh and the whole Egypt cried in anguish, and he finally let the people go.

Just as God had promised, the Egyptian neighbours gave many gifts of food, clothes and jewelry for the people of God, as they left that land. However, it was not long until Pharaoh changed his mind - again! - and decided to capture and bring the people of God back to slavery.

A very fierce pursuit began, Pharaoh and his army were determined to get to the people, and the people ran as fast as they could, until they got to a point of no return. In front of them, it was the Red Sea, and behind, a very angry Pharaoh and his army. "What do we do now? There is no place to run and the army is fast approaching." People began to despair and Moses cried out to God.

But God was very calm, He is Greater than any problem we may face. He told Moses, "Why do you cry out to me? Tell the people to march on! Raise you hands and touch the waters with the rod I gave you, and the people will pass through the sea in dry land".

Guess what? That is exactly what happened! God never fails. The majestic sea opened up and all the people of God crossed over to the other side. Pharaoh and his army could not believe what they saw. Another sign that God is very powerful to save His people. And yet, Pharaoh refused to let them go free and commanded his army: "Go after them!"

They started for the open sea, and as they got on the middle of the way, the last of the Hebrews got to the other side. So the sea closed down again, the waves came crashing down on them, Pharaoh and his army drowned and perished right there.

And that is how the people of God had been set free form slavery in Egypt and were now going to a wonderful land that God had prepared for them.

Important points to explore:

• There must be a distinction between the people who give ears to God and do His will and those who do not.  

• God never fails! If He promises, He will do. Everything He says is true, and be do well by listening to His instructions and obeying His voice.

• God cares for and protects those who are on His side. How good it is to belong to God and receive His amazing love.

Suggested Activity:    

The activity below will help the children to identify the 10 plagues. Be careful about the way you talk about the plagues. They did not come to destroy, only to serve as a sign that something was very, very wrong. 

The plagues were, in fact, a way God found to show Pharaoh he was behaving badly, he had the chance to fix what he was doing wrong. But when we resist the voice of God, we bring trouble upon ourselves!

Painful boils spreads throughout Egypt on man and beast.
The Egyptians had al the shoes taken away

7TH PLAGUE

Giant balls of ice, known as hail, crash down to earth from the sky.
It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. 

8TH PLAGUE

They were feed to the lions in the lions den.
Locusts destroy Egypt's crops, leaving them very little to eat.

9TH PLAGUE

Darkness falls upon Egypt for 6 days.
All the flowers turned into bees.

10TH PLAGUE

The first born child of every Egyptian was killed.

All the Egyptian people turned into statues of salt

Mont Sinai part 1

The journey to Mount Sinai has begun

GOD SAW, HEARD AND CAME DOWN

Lessons starts on the 13th of Nov up to the 19th of Nov

For over 430 years, the people of Israel have been kept as slaves on Egypt, subject to hardships, misery and pain on the hands of people that did not know the God of Israel, nor did they respected Him.

The people cried out to God, and God SAW their affliction, HEARD their cry and CAME DOWN in order to rescue them from their troubles.

But who would God use in order to tell Pharaoh to let His people go? They were not supposed to be slaves, but a free, blessed and rich nation! Who would be bold enough to speak God's message to the mighty and cruel Pharaoh?  

Moses did not know it yet, but he was the chosen one for this important task.

He was tending his sheep on the desert very close to Mount Sinai. Suddenly, he looked up and saw something really amazing! It was a bush on fire, but the bush did not burn up! What are the odds? "That is something really intriguing, I will go up there and see this wonderful sight. Why is it the bush does not burn up and turns into ashes?", he thought to himself.

So up he went, and as he got closer to the burning bush, God spoke to him:

"Moses, Moses. Take off your sandals, for the place you stand is Holy ground". Moses obeyed immediately!

God called him up the Sinai, showed His power and sent him on a very important mission: to deliver His people from Egypt, so they could all live happily in a new land, where there was plenty of milk and honey. Yummy!  


God also promised that once they left Egypt, their neighbours would give them many gifts, like silver and gold jewelry, as well as clothes.

Important points to explore:

• When we cry out to God, He sees, hears and comes down. He is there for us whenever we need Him

• God has very important tasks for each one of us: to obey our parents, to respect people, to be nice to others, to talk about Jesus to our friends, to pray for those who are in need... Will you listen and do what He is asking of you?

• Take off you sandals, everything that impedes you from  being the child God wants you to be. Lies, anger, disobedience, dishonesty, bad behavior, laziness, bad thoughts, etc.
