BIBLICAL REFERENCE
Luke 6.12-16; Matthew 4.21; John 19:25-27

PURPOSE OF THE LESSON
Teach children that all those who are God’s friends wish to serve Him.

MEMORIZE THE VERSE
“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” (John 15.14)

INTRODUCTION

Educator, paint the picture of Sunday’s activity which you will use during story time. Start by asking the following: Do you have a friend very close to you that, if one could, one would stay beside you all the time? (Wait their participation) How nice! On today’s story we will hear about 12 men who had a very special friend. Let us find out who were those men? Then listen carefully, it is about to start.

JESUS CHOOSES 12 FRIENDS

THE LORD Jesus was surrounded by many people. Some of them wanted to see Him, others wanted to listen to His prayers and receive the miracles. But among the crowd there were 12 disciples chosen by Jesus to be always with Him. The disciples were: Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.
Among the disciples there was one who was known as the beloved disciple, his name was John, son of Zebedee and brother of James. Both of them, before becoming disciples, were fishermen. We can also be like John, a follower and friend of Jesus.
Jesus wishes us to be His friends. Do you want to know what behavior we should have to be friends of Jesus? We need to accept Him as our Savior and invite Him to live inside our hearts; thus we will have a true friend who will be with us at all moments. And just as the beloved disciple was always with Jesus, so we will be with Jesus and He will be with us.
When Jesus was on the cross to die for all of us, John was the only disciple who stood beside Jesus, seeing the sacrifice His great friend was doing. Despite the pain He felt and the big suffering, Jesus was conquering our victory, the right to go live in heaven. John was with Jesus until the moment of His death.
You know, kids, John was not afraid of being acknowledged as one of the disciples, and did not abandon Jesus. John loved his friend who was on the cross, very much. Jesus knew that, and even on the cross He pointed to Mary, His mother, and said to John: “Behold your mother”.  Do you know what John did? He took Mary, mother of Jesus, to his home and started taking care of her as if she was his own mother. How beautiful attitude he showed to his friend Jesus, right?
John truly loved Jesus; he believed in His promises and, later, came to write the Gospel of John telling the wonders he saw Jesus do and speak, beyond three epistles and the book of Revelations which speaks about the return of Jesus.

CONCLUSION

Little friends, if we want to have a great friendship with the Lord Jesus we should do as John being obedient and always be close to Jesus. Have you been friends of Jesus by doing what He teaches, following Him and listening to what He says through His word? No? Then take this opportunity and become friends with Him from today on. Who here wishes it say “me”. Amen! Let us pray then?

FUN CHAT

Educator, you take to classroom a cardboard written with the heading: Kinds of Stores. Below write the following words: clothes store, shoes store, toys store, furniture store, candy store, friends store. Glue with masking tape the cardboard on the board or on the wall. Start this moment by showing the poster for your class by saying: Children, here on this poster I have several kinds of stores; repeat after me. Educator, you read it pointing to the poster and make a surprised face when you get to the friends store and say: Friends Store! Do you know any store which sells friends? (Wait their participation). Of course not, right? There are stores in which we can buy many things like: clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, candies, but there is no such thing as buying friends, for we cannot buy friends, right? We conquer our friends, we make friendships with people. There is no way to go to a store and buy a friend. John became the beloved disciple, friend of Jesus, and has always been beside Him, learning and obeying to what Jesus used to say. And this is exactly what we should do, do you understand? Now, let us pray and ask the Spirit of our Great Friend enters our hearts, amen? Educator, you seek the Holy Spirit with your class and determine that, from today on, they all will walk with Jesus.

Unit 3 -  NOAH'S ARK

BIBLICAL REFERENCE
Genesis 6; 7; 8 and 9:1-19

PURPOSE OF THE LESSON
Teach children that God’s friends are kept by Him.

VERSE TO MEMORIZE
“The Lord confides in those who fear him…” (Psalms 25.14)

INTRODUCTION

Educator, you take to class a picture of scenery with a rainbow and pictures or drawings of animals: cow, ox, giraffe, lion, bear, birds, etc. which will be used during story time. Start by asking the following: Children, what would you do if you see your friend going through a dangerous situation? (Wait their participation) You would certainly do something to help him/her or you would ask for an adult to help them, right? In today’s story I am going to talk about a fearing God man who had his life saved. Let us hear the story? So pay attention.

NOAH’S ARK

ONCE UPON a time there was a very honest and kind man who always obeyed God. Noah was his name. Noah walked with God, that is, he did His will. Noah’s neighbors did many wrong things that displeased God and, because if their many sins, God decided to end the entire earth.
Children, it was not fair that Noah and his family suffer along with those people who did not respect God. So, God told Noah His idea: "Noah, I'll end it all, for the earth is filled with violence. I want you to build a large boat with three floors, door and window, because I'll make fall on the ground a lot, but a lot of rain. But do not worry Noah, for I make a covenant with you, and will enter the boat you and your entire family, your children, your wife and the wives of your sons, and also two animals of each species, a male and a female will enter into the boat: poultry, cattle, reptiles and all kinds of animals, always a little couple, to keep them alive. "
Noah obeyed God and started building the ark; for being so big it took about 100 years to be done. Noah and his family had to be very obedient and they had so much faith while building the ark. God has closed the door of the ark and no one could open it neither inside nor outside.
Those people who were outside remained laughing at Noah until started falling a very heavy rain, and soon everything was flooded. It rained during forty days and forty nights, nonstop. Then God remembered Noah and the animals, and blew a wind over the earth; the water of the deluge went down and the rain stopped.
After a hundred and fifty days, the ark has stopped on Mount Ararat, and you could see the top of the mountains. To know if the waters were low, Noah has opened the window and released a bird, a raven. The raven flew, but did not find a tree to land, so it came back to the ark.
Days passed by and Noah released a dove and, just like the raven, it came back. After seven days, he released the dove again and it came back with an olive leaf on its beak. Noah waited seven more days, released the same dove again, and it never returned.
That was the sign; it was time to get off the ark, and was God Himself who told Noah to go out with his entire family, and told them to have a lot of children so they would populate Earth. So, Noah left the ark. Do you know what did he do first? He made an altar with stones. Noah offered on it a sacrifice to the Lord. God was very happy with that offering and said he would never destroy Earth again, and while there was Earth, then would also have seeds, cold, hot, summer, winter, day and night. God blessed Noah and his entire family.

CONCLUSION

Children, Noah was God’s friend and because of him, God made a covenant that benefits us until today. God has put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant with Noah and all mankind. God said he would never destroy Earth again with a deluge. And it is because of that, children, every time we have a heavy rain, soon after the rainbow appears in the sky. The rainbow represents the covenant of God with Noah and all of us. Little friends, when we are God’s friends, we are kept and protected by Him, just as He did with Noah. Understand? Amen!

FUN CHAT

Educator, you cut three pieces of cardboard (tag) with 20cmx20cm, make a little hole where you will put a piece of ribbon which will serve as a cord. Write on one of the tags the word GOD, and on the other tag write DANGERS, and on the third tag write SIN.
Educator, you put the tag GOD on a child, the tag DANGERS on the help educator (or another child) and ask her to stay at the end of the classroom. The tag SIN you put on yourself and stay at the end of the classroom. Call another kid and explain to the class: (say the name of the kid) will represent the person who walks with God, (say the name of the help educator or the kid) will symbolize the dangers of this world and I will represent sin (say it pointing to your tag).
Educator, (apart so the class do not hear you) instruct the chosen kid to hold hands to the one who has the tag God and to stay away from you and the help educator. Ne sure that one understood and say: Let us say that (point to the chosen kid) is a person chosen by God, and one respects Him, does His will and walks with Him, always following His steps (ask the two kids to walk around the classroom). Class, see that God never leads us to dangerous places or ways (point to the help educator or the kid with the tag dangers), and there is no way of being with Him living a life of sin (point to your tag) making so wrong things. Did you understand? You know, kids, Noah walked with God, that is, he was God’s friend for he did His will. Even having neighbors who did wrong things he remained faithful and obedient to God. Who here wants to be like Noah, say “me”. Amen! Now, let us pray so Jesus put in us the same character of Noah? (Educator, pray with your class).

Unit 2 -  GOD IS OUR FATHER

BIBLICAL REFERENCE
Luke 11:11 and John 11:1-46

PURPOSE OF THE LESSON
Teach children that Jesus is our giving Father, who takes care of us.

VERSE TO MEMORIZE
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)

INTRODUCTION

Educator, you start this moment by asking: Who here has a friend? (Wait their participation). Ask a kid: What is its name? You would never deny helping a friend, right? (Wait the kid’s answer) You would help or would ask someone to help him/her, right? On today’s story we will talk about a beautiful friendship among three siblings and a very special person. Let us find out who those people were?

GOD IS OUR FATHER

LAZARUS, MARTHA and Mary were siblings, and they had a very special friend who did wonderful miracles. Do you know whom am I talking about? (Wait participation) I am talking about Jesus! That is right, they were friends with Jesus.
One day, Lazarus got really sick, and his sisters were so worried; they sent word for Jesus that His great friend was very ill. When Jesus received the news, he said to His disciples that, because of that sickness, the power of God would manifest and many would praise His name.
The Lord Jesus, even knowing that Lazarus was very sick, after receiving the news remained a little longer in that place. After two days, He called His disciples and said He would go to Lazarus to wake Him up fro he was sleeping. Little friends, the disciples thought Lazarus was really sleeping, but Jesus explained he had died and He would resurrect him.
Some people went to the house of Martha and Mary to comfort them for they got really sad. When Martha knew Jesus had arrived, she run to Him and, saddened, she said if Jesus was there with them, her brother would not be dead. Jesus said her to trust in God, for Lazarus would live again. She believed in those words and went to warn her sister that Jesus had arrived.
Mary cried when she saw Jesus and said the same as Martha: if you, Lord, had arrived earlier none of this would happen. The Lord Jesus got really sad and even cried, for Lazarus was His friend. After that, Jesus went to the place where Lazarus was buried and commanded them to remove the stone closing the entrance of the tomb. Back then, the dead were buried in caves which were closed by big stones. When arriving to the entrance of the tomb, Jesus yelled: “Lazarus, come forth!” And, immediately, he came out of the tomb with his feet, hands and face wrapped with strips of cloth. Jesus commanded them to unwrap and take him home.
What a great joy, a true miracle! Jesus resurrected Lazarus, His friend.

CONCLUSION

Little friends, what a joy to have such a special friend like Jesus, right? He is also our protector Father who looks after us. Jesus knows what we need and answers us when we pray with faith. He knows our life and will answer us, just as He did to Mary and Martha by resurrecting Lazarus. Who here is child of Jesus, lift up your hand! Then obey Him and try always to make His will. Speaking of which, let us pray for the fathers for we are celebrating Father’s Day. So, respect your father or responsible, and if he does not serve God yet, believe that soon Jesus will give him a new life, just as He did to Lazarus. Amen!

FUN CHAT

Educator, for this moment you will need cookies bags (enough for the children’s snack) and a bag of the same cookie with pebbles instead. Put the two bags on the table and start the fun chat asking the following: Who wants cookie? Take the bag with the pebbles; get one pebble out of the bag and say: What is this, class? Pebbles? Children, I would never give this to you, I just put those pebbles here to give you an example of something Jesus said in the past: Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:11-13)
You see, kids, Jesus wants to show us with this Word that He gets worried about each one of us and knows what we need; He will bless us with the best for He is glorified when we are blessed. Do you understand? (Wait participation) I would never give you these pebbles (show the bag again) but I will give you cookies (show the bag of cookies). Who here wishes to eat these delicious cookies? Please stand up. Let us pray and thank Jesus the love and care from Him to us and then we will consecrate the snack. Educator, you pray with your class.
