INTRODUCTION

Has anyone here ever been chosen to do something special that you were not expecting to? (Give them time to answer and talk about their experiences). It’s a huge surprise, isn’t it? Sometimes we feel afraid thinking that we won’t be able to do what we were asked to. Something like that happened in today’s story. Do you want to know what it was? Let’s all pay attention so we may understand today’s story.

GIDEON’S CALL

WE ALREADY learned that sin separates us from God and that we become an easy target for the enemy. There was a time that the people of Israel sinned against God, and because of that, they began to suffer in the hands of the Midianites, They were innumerous!
They destroyed everything that the people of Israel planted leaving them without food.

Because of this, the Israelites began to hide in caves. They lived in great fear and no longer harvested, they couldn’t because every time they tried, the enemies would came and take everything. So much suffering, isn’t it? Tired of so much suffering, they decided to cry out to God for help.

Amongst the people, there was a man named Gideon, a young, brave and courageous man. One day he was cleaning the wheat, when an angel appeared to him and said: "The Lord is with you, brave man." God saw how brave he was because while the others were hiding, there he was cleaning the wheat. The Angel commanded Gideon to use his strength and courage to free the people from that suffering, for God was with him.

Do you know who that Angel was? That Angel was the Lord Jesus. God sent Him to speak to Gideon that he was the chosen one to deliver His people from that suffering. Gideon was surprised, because his family was the poorest in Israel, and he was the youngest of his house. How could that be possible? Yes, for God nothing is impossible. God went on saying that He was with him and that he was on his side and, because of that; he would defeat the Midianites as if they were a single man.

At that moment, God was teaching Gideon that the most important was not his strength but to have God by his side.

CONCLUSION

We cannot do great things by ourselves. But with God's help, we can do everything and overcome even the biggest problems in our lives. It does not matter if you are tiny or big, or if your parents don’t have much, what really matters is your faith in God. Put all your trust in Him, and believe that He chose you just as He did Gideon, and He now sent us to tell you this too. Know that you are very important to God, and He could do great things through you.

FUN CHAT

Take to the classroom an illustration or a picture of firefighters, police officers and soldiers. Make a poster with those pictures. Start saying the following: Let’s say that there is a fire in a certain place, which one of these professionals should be called? (Wait for them to answer and show the poster). The firefighters, right? And when are the police officers called? (Show the poster and wait their participation). When there is a robbery, confusion, fights or when someone doesn’t comply with the law, the police officers are called to resolve the situation. Now, when there is war, the soldiers go into action to ensure the safety of the country or state (show the poster).

All these professionals (show the poster) must have a lot of courage to do what their job requires them to do, because to do what they need to do requires courage, right?

Children, today we have learned about Gideon, a man that, because of his courage, was chosen by God to lead His army. God counts on people of faith, courage and people who trust Him wholeheartedly, amen? That’s why you must not fear. If you are experiencing problems inside your house, at school or with your friends don’t be sad, because with God we are more than conquerors!

Educator, pray with the class and then play a game to memorize the verse of the week.
